LAU and long time collaborator Ends 84 have done it again. A masterful depiction of a broken relationship wrapped in an ear candy production and effervescent groove.
The high energy drum patterns and synth stabs are upbeat and full of energy, creating a meaningful contrast with the lyrics, full of regret and sorrow.
Comparison to Shura and HAIM are inevitable, since these artists borrow extensively from early Madonna or 80's chart topping tracks. LAU's take on the sound is fresh and original by bringing her sound closer to a more purist synthwave and retrowave aesthetic.
Like a chapter in LAU's book of life, True is looking at the broken relationship with a more reflective outlook. You can hear how the passing of time has cleared the fog and memories are revealing the true nature of said relationship.
They say truth will free yourself, this is what true art sounds like.
Are you gonna come back in the morning?
And reconcile
I don’t like the way you left,
No warning
And teary eyed
I know we had something
Tell me, was it all my fault
Now we're done
You never loved me, that you can’t deny
(You never loved me, no)
You were just playing all along,
Trying to get the most of me, but why?
(You never loved me, no)
You know it’s true
The minute you felt the need you started new
(You never loved me, no)
It’s all about you
You don’t really care for other people’s hearts
(You never loved me, no)
Now I realise I was ignoring
The obvious signs (I think I was, I really was)
Maybe I should have seen where you were going
He was your type
I know we had something
Tell me, was it all my fault
Now we're done
You never loved me, that you can’t deny
(You never loved me, no)
You were just playing all along,
Trying to get the most of me, but why?
(You never loved me, no)
You know it’s true
The minute you felt the need you started new
(You never loved me, no)
It’s all about you
You don’t really care for other people’s hearts
(You never loved me, no)
I know I will survive, this feeling will subside
(It will be over soon)
It still hurts that you were the one that crossed the line
(Line)
You never loved me, that you can’t deny
(You never loved me, no)
You were just playing all along,
Trying to get the most of me, but why?
(You never loved me, no)
You know it’s true
The minute you felt the need you started new
(You never loved me, no)
It’s all about you
You don’t really care for other people’s hearts
(You never loved me, no)
You never loved me, no
Now I realise
You never loved me, no

This is my first listen to the digital album and OMFG it's so good, and the quality is so much better than the web page stream too! I was on the fence about buying this album but damn I'm so glad I did! chloe53
